SCHOLASTICS ART AND WRITING AWARDS

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Each year, increasing numbers of teens participate in the program, and become a part of our community—young artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, video game artists and science fiction writers, along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process.

Here is how this works:

With the guidance of your art teacher, select a piece of artwork that you have done in class.

Here are a FEW examples of last year’s Regional winners: https://www.barton.edu/pdf/galleries/art-awards-catalog.pdf

Go to artandwriting.org/registration to sign up. Click on Create New Account. Select STUDENT. Fill in all fields with correct information. You can do this NOW.

IMPORTANT: The deadlines listed on the website are REGIONAL deadlines. They are NOT WHITE OAK DEADLINES!!     WHITE OAK DEADLINE – DECEMBER 7, 2:30 PM

Whenever you are ready, you may upload digital images of your work. The guidelines for your work can be found at http://www.artandwriting.org/Affiliate/NC002A. You can use the following site to convert image sizes: coolutils.com

You may enter as many pieces as you like. Each piece has an entry fee of $5. If you are an NAHS member, you will get ONE entry free. Seniors may enter a portfolio of 8 works for $20. NAHS members can receive $5 off the price of the portfolio. Students who have qualified for free or reduced lunch will have entry fees waived. If you qualify for waived fees, you must tell your art teacher immediately.

ALL FEES ARE DUE BY DECEMBER 7 AT 2:30 PM. Pay cash or checks made payable to White Oak High School.

Print out the registration form. It MUST be signed by your art teacher AND by your parents! This form is also due on December 7.

Once the work is submitted to Barton College, a team of judges spend an entire weekend looking at all of the work. Gold Key (1st place) winners, Silver Key (2nd place) winners, and Honorable Mention winners are announced by January 15. IMPORTANT – if your work is selected as a Gold or Silver Key, you must send the ACTUAL artwork to be delivered to Barton College by January 21.

All Gold and Silver Key artwork is displayed in the Barton College gallery and students are recognized at a ceremony at Barton College at 1:30 PM on January 31.

Digital images of ALL Gold Key work are sent on to NATIONAL judging. Winners will be notified in the spring.
